Our Holiday Traditions

We love the holidays! The kids especially. I think it’s because of the lights and getting gifts thing. I love the holidays because it’s a time of our traditions and doing holiday things around town.

Our holiday season kicks off at Thanksgiving. We have lunch at my in-laws, and dinner with my side of the family. That day is typically just a full day of eating, sitting around and taking pictures.

The next day is a shopping day, Black Friday. We don’t go shopping unless it’s online or we see something that we really want to buy. This year, we just shopped on Amazon. This day though, we do end up going to the mall because we take our annual family photos at JCPenney. I get a Groupon for a free sitting session with a print. This year we got a canvas print, instead of the usual holiday cards. I decided not to send out cards this year because I wonder what happens after the holidays… do they keep or throw it away? I figured, I’ll just post the photos on Facebook and Instagram, where my family and friends will see it anyway.

We also go to Delray Beach and check out the 100 Foot Christmas Tree. The lights on it are beautiful, and there are wonderful displays inside the tree as well. The kids love seeing it. They also love riding the carousel, playing mini golf and running around in the open space.

Another tradition is going to Hoffman’s Chocolates to see the light displays. Last year they offered ice skating, like real ice skating outside! I don’t know how they keep it cool as the weather is still pretty warm out, but when we went it was cooler out and we were able to ice skate. This year, I am sure we’ll do it again.

The kids love seeing lights! We’ll probably check out a drive through display at some point. I can’t believe that Christmas is so soon! I still need to get gifts!
